The Wounded Healer

Wounded healers are spiritual warriors who have found the courage to defeat the darkness of their souls. Awakening and rising from the depth of their deepest fears, like a phoenix rising from the ashes. Reborn with a wisdom and strength that creates a light that shines bright enough to help, encourage, and inspire others out of their own darkness. ~ Melanie Koulouris

Wounded healers are not born and they are not made. Wounded healers create themselves through conquering adversity, by trial and error, and by rising above the shadowy side of life in order to let their Sacred Light lead their way, while still keeping the darkness within reach. They conquer their fears, and find a way to speak their truth even when they are afraid, and even when it is not well-liked. In doing so, they shine their Light for others who are lost and feeling alone, then in return, their own inner Light re-ignites with a renewed purpose, a purpose greater than they ever could have imagined.

Caroline Myss said, “We are not meant to stay wounded. We are supposed to move through our tragedies and challenges and to help each other move through the many painful episodes of our lives. By remaining stuck in the power of our wounds, we block our own transformation. We overlook the greater gifts inherent in our wounds, the strength to overcome them, and the lessons that we are meant to receive through them. Wounds are the means through which we enter the hearts of other people. They are meant to teach us to become compassionate and wise.”

Wounded healers understand that, “The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” (Rumi)  And they know, “We are always given the very wounds that we are eventually meant to teach others to heal.” (Teal Swan) We cannot go through life without acquiring some wounds, some are deeper and crueler than others, but we all obtain them. It is a part of this physical human experience. Turning our wounds into allies will make us better teachers, leaders, healers, and lovers throughout our Life, and we turn our wounds into allies by letting our Light lead us. Letting Light Lead Life is the groundwork of the wounded healer.

Try viewing your trials in life like the grain of sand that the oyster needs to have in order to create a pearl. We all go through trials and challenges in life. Let those ordeals be the roughness that nudges you from your deep sleep, making you more aware of the truth of who you really are.

One beautiful way to heal a wounded heart is to go to a sacred space, either physically or mentally. Jaeda DeWalt said, “The calm within the storm is where peace lives and breathes. It is not within perfect circumstances or a charmed life…it is not conditional. Peace is a sacred space within; it is the temple of our internal landscape. We are free to visit it, whenever we seek sanctuary. Underneath the chaos of everyday living, peace is patiently awaiting our discovery… go within.” When you take a shamanic journey, often you will start at a sacred place in nature that is special and significant for you. It may be a real place that you have been to before, it may be a place that you haven’t physically been present at, or it might only exist in your imagination; however, this place is dear to your heart. The most important thing about this place is that it holds meaning for you; you feel at peace in this sacred spot, and you can picture it clearly in your mind. Joseph Campbell said, “At first you might find that nothing happens there. But if you have a sacred space and use it, eventually something will happen. Your sacred space is where you can find yourself over and over again.”  And I would add, heal yourself over and over again.

I was fortunate enough to find this beautiful healing, sacred space while on a Reiki retreat this summer in Sedona AZ. I spent several hours at this pool meditating and feeling the energy of pachamama come to me up through this giant red rock I was laying on. The amazing thing about our mind is that we don't have to physically be present in our sacred spaces, just thinking, imaging, visualizing, and intending to be in our sacred space will create within our bodies the same experience as if we were physically present. I can go back to this healing spot any time I choose and you can too.

My purpose and intention for writing this blog is to be a light bearer in this world to help others reveal their own sacred, mystical path in Life. I especially want to encourage women to heal their pain, discover their passion, establish their voice, realize their true power, and remember the truth of who they really are.

I want to share with you my favorite quote from Marianne Williamson from her book, Return To Love. She said, “Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, ‘who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous?'
Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It’s not just in some of us; it’s in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

The Secret from the Universe for today is this; we all will get wounded while on this journey through Life. There is no way to avoid it, or to keep it from happening; however, we already have everything we need within us in order to heal those very wounds we will acquire. The truth is we are perfect, whole and complete even with our beautiful scars. Having been wounded doesn't mean we are broken, it means we have multiple places for our sacred light to shine through us out onto others.

Namaste!
